27 July: Roma, here we come! But first to Dubai

This blog is set up for us to remember our wonderful trip by and for our friends to share our experience.

So this is how the trip happened. My brother says he will pay for my trip to anywhere I want. I've always wanted to go to Venice. So I went.

We left for Roma on the 27 of July, after my convocation (which was a complete waste of time).

We went on Emirates to Dubai for transit. Dubai was... something else. Hordes of people wrapped up in blankets, sleeping UNDER the benches in the airport, fake palm trees, that strange smell in the air... Fascinating. But we're only there for like 1 hour so it wasn't that bad.

Roma, here we come!

Actually, no. We arrived at Milan first, then to Roma. Damn you Nam Ho.

So we finally reached Fiumicino (which somehow translate to Leonardo da Vinci) Airport. Then we saw this

Yea. We're in Italy alright. So we took this train, which incidently, is named Leonardo Express to Termini where our hotel is.

The room was pretty well equipped with a mini-fridge (which DO NOT work), 2 beds, TV and a toilet. We found a half chewed piece of pizza on the AC unit outside the window. Great. How Italian. But we did not have to worry bout it though, the pigeons took care of it.

We unpacked and went to our first stop: the Spanish Steps. It is basically a flight of steps leading to the Spanish Embassy. The steps were so full of tourists that we did not manage to get a good picture. The place was full of life: people lazing around, people playing their guitar and singing etc. We even witnessed a proposal there!

The horse love to munch on Shuyi's hair.

Next we went to the beautiful Trevi Fountain. It was quite unheard of before the movie Three Coins in the Fountain back in 1954 made it big. I personally did not see why it need a movie to make it famous. C'mon look at it

Its gorgeous! There is this tradition of tossing a coin into the fountain to one day return to Rome. Well, as they said, when in Rome... We did toss coins into the fountain. Yes. The smallest Singapore coin we can find. Euro is twice the value you know! So I'll prolly not return to Rome so soon.

We wanted our first dinner in Italy to be a nice one. So we consulted our 'Good eats in Italy' book we borrowed from the library back home. And this is what we ended up with

It was great. risotto is my newest favourite dish.
